Will Smith’s Reaction to Jada Pinkett Smith’s Book: ‘I Was All Over the Place’

Will Smith expressed his astonishment at certain aspects of his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s latest book. During an episode of On Purpose with Jay Shetty, Jada, 52, listened as the host read a letter from Will, 55, reacting to her newly released book, “Worthy.”

In the letter, Will, who has been married to Jada since 1997, shared his diverse emotional journey while reading “Worthy,” stating, “I just turned the final page of Worthy. It is amazing to realize that despite having lived most of my life by your side, I still found myself shocked and stunned and caught off guard, laughing, then inspired, then heartbroken. I was all over the place.”

He continued by acknowledging that while it’s one thing to hear anecdotes at a family gathering, it was overwhelming to absorb Jada’s story in this condensed form. Will, who published his own memoir in 2021, described Jada as “one of one, a rare blend of power and delicate sensitivity,” commending her for delving into her depths in the book.

Jada, responding to the letter on the podcast, humorously noted Will’s suggestion of having Merlot, saying, “He knows I can’t have no Merlot! That’s beautiful. That’s why I can’t divorce that joker.” She also interpreted his statement about hugging more as a recognition of taking more time to understand and listen.

“Worthy” provides readers with an intimate look into Jada’s childhood, mental health struggles, career highs and lows, and her relationship with Will. In a shared excerpt, Jada revealed that she and Will had been living separate lives even while attending the 2022 Oscars as a family. Jada confirmed their separation since 2016 in an NBC News special, expressing that they are still figuring things out in their marriage, which has seen significant changes in the last two years.

The book, “Worthy,” is available for purchase starting Tuesday.
