Commercial Building Explosion Claims Lives of Kansas Family, Including 19-Month-Old Child

A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday in Bucklin, Kansas, where a family lost their lives due to an explosion in a commercial building undergoing renovations, as confirmed by authorities. The blast occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. local time on the 100 block of west Center Street, over 100 miles west of Wichita, according to a Facebook post by Ford County Sheriff Bill Carr.

Responding to the incident, members of the Ford County Sheriff’s Office, Ford County Fire/EMS, and the Bucklin Fire Department discovered three individuals inside the building who had lost their lives. Another person, identified as Christian Stimpert, 26, was transported to St. Catherine Hospital in Dodge City for medical treatment.

In an update provided on Sunday, Sheriff Carr identified the deceased as Jerry Isakson, 26, Robin Hamilton, 29, and their 19-month-old child, Stormi Isakson. The investigation, conducted by the Kansas State Fire Marshal Office and Ford County Fire, concluded that the explosion was an “accident” and occurred during the building’s remodeling.

Although the exact cause of the explosion remains unclear, Sheriff Carr emphasized that an ongoing investigation is in progress. In a statement on Tuesday, he reflected on the profound impact the incident had on first responders and the community, acknowledging the stress and challenges they face in the aftermath.

Carr expressed solidarity with the grieving family and the community, highlighting the resilience observed within the community of Bucklin and Ford County. He noted the long-lasting effects the incident would have and assured that the necessary support would be provided to those affected.
