Director Michael Bay knows Will Smith from their collaboration on the first two “Bad Boys” flicks, and he has some thoughts about “the slap.”
Bay expressed that he does not really care. He didn’t feel it was right but he has worked with him before. He knows Smith is not that person. He has never seen him lose it like that before. Bay, like many others who witnessed Smith smack Chris Rock on stage at this year’s Academy Awards, originally assumed the event was staged.
Particularly because Bay stated that he’s “been on set when Will messes with folks and jokes with them.” The filmmaker stated that he did not see the hit live, yet many people contacted him about it, and that he is aware that it is a big issue.
Bay noted that there are more pressing issues that require greater attention. “Hollywood becomes really self-absorbed,” Bay observed. “Right now, infants are being blown up in Ukraine. That is something we should discuss.”
