Steve Sax, the son of former Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Steve Sax, was among the five individuals perished in a military plane crash on Wednesday.
Capt. John J. Sax, Steve Sax’s son, was a member of that team of the Osprey tiltrotor aircraft that collapsed in Imperial County, California.
According to Steve Sax of CBS Los Angeles, his kid was on board the plane.
It is with great sadness that he has to report that his darling son, Johnny, was one of the five US Marines who died in the Osprey Military crash near San Diego on Wednesday, June 8, Sax added.
He concluded that those of you who knew Johnny witnessed his big grin, brilliant light, love for his family, the Marines, the thrill of flying planes, and serving the nation. He was his idol and the best individual he knew, and there was no one better to protect the nation.
Steve Sax stated that his son has always desired to be a pilot and would chat about the many planes flying in the sky while playing Little League baseball.
According to Sax’s remark, from an early age, there was no question that Johnny would be a pilot, and his passion was to fly. This death will affect his life eternally, and it is a loss not only to the Marines but to the world.
The Los Angeles Dodgers offered their condolences after learning of Sax’s passing.
As per their statement, the Los Angeles Dodgers are heartbroken to learn of the death of Steve Sax’s son, John, and the five Marines killed in this week’s horrific helicopter crash. Their sympathies go out to the families and friends.

Cpl. Nathan E. Carlson, 21, of Winnebago, Illinois; Capt. Nicholas P. Losapio, 31, of Rockingham, New Hampshire; Cpl. Seth D. Rasmuson, 21, of Johnson, Wyoming; and Lance Cpl. Evan A. Strickland, 19, of Valencia was among those killed.
Losapio and Sax were pilots of the Marine Medium Tiltrotor (VMM) Squadron 364, Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft MAW), according to a report from the Marine Aircraft Wing Communication Strategy and Operations office, while the other people were crew chiefs.
As per release, Lt. Col. John C. Miller, Commanding Officer of VMM-364, said, It is with sorrow that they grieve the death of five Marines from the Purple Fox family.
Miller continued, this is an extraordinarily sad moment for VMM-364, and it is impossible to convey how this tragedy has affected the unit and its families. Their primary responsibility today is to cater for the families of their fallen Marines, and they humbly seek privacy for their families at this trying time.
John J. Sax is survived by his wife, Amber, who is now expecting the couple’s second child. He also leaves behind his 20-month-old little girl.
