A mother from Las Vegas claims that she was given genital herpes as a “wake-up call” to change her life. The STI was discovered to be present in Alexandra Harbushka, now 39, in 2011 after she contracted it from her ex-boyfriend.
The Nevada native, who now operates the website LifeWithHerpes, was in her late 20s at the time, living with her parents, having financial difficulties, and regularly binge drinking. She felt lost and aimless.
She thought God was trying to tell her she wasn’t on the right path. She wasn’t who she was supposed to be, Harbushka said in an interview. So that she would finally wake up, pay attention, and implement modifications, he finally gave her herpes.
The illness, which can be spread through vaginal, anal, and oral intercourse, was acquired at a time when Harbushka claims she was not promiscuous.
The CDC estimates that 11.9% of people between the ages of 14 and 49 have the incurable, lifelong infection known as genital herpes. Each year, an estimated 572,000 new infections are reported across the US.
Harbushka was plunged into sadness due to the “shame” of the STI despite its ubiquity before she was able to see the illness as a “physical manifestation” from God.
The brunette remembered, it was really heartbreaking, crushing, and smothering. She believed that nothing mattered now that she had herpes. She didn’t believe she was worthy of love.
I felt like Eeyore from “Winnie the Pooh,” she continued, and it took her two years to come to terms with it. Every day she sobbed, she simply was unable to escape this fog.
Then, Harbushka made the decision to rebuild her life and launch the LifeWithHerpes website in an effort to combat the stigma associated with the STI.
She recently opened a linked TikTok account, where she has gained more than 36,000 followers, many of whom also have genital herpes.

She want individuals to have the knowledge necessary to engage in safe sex. If someone has herpes, she wants them to understand how to manage it and not let it limit them, said Harbushka.
She said that if she doesn’t take care of her health, the problem can worsen.
Bad lifestyle choices increase the frequency and severity of outbreaks, she said. Outbreaks may be caused by certain foods or by individuals with weakened immune systems. They can be triggered by sugar, cocoa beans, peanuts, coconuts, and coffee.
Harbushka eventually ended her relationship with the man who had given her the STI, and she found dating challenging in the years that followed.
The TikTokker said, it made her realise that anybody she dated would actually appreciate me for who she is, and it wouldn’t simply be a fling. She would find out if the guy really wanted to be with her when she confessed that she had herpes.
The attractive brunette claimed that men frequently turned her down, but she resolutely made the decision to turn the losses into an advantage.
She said, she recognised that if somebody rejected her because she had herpes, they weren’t someone she would want to be with.
Harbushka and Bill are now happily married, and the two of them have a 2-year-old kid.
The stunning claims that her husband was the one who came up with the idea to create the TikTok account since he is so encouraging of her speaking up about her STI.
A fan who commented beneath a recent video that “I truly needed this today” was one of the many individuals who struggled with their herpes diagnoses and received assistance from the well-liked page. The fan added, ” I was made to understand how much of a people-pleaser I was by it.”
