According to a news statement from the Rocklin Police Department (RPD), the guy, named by family members as Casey Rivara, pulled over at the junction of Park Drive and Stanford Ranch Boulevard on Thursday about 8:15 p.m. local time to assist the animals in safely crossing the roadway.
According to the RPD, a teenage motorist traveling eastbound on Stanford Ranch Boulevard hit the victim as he was standing in the road.
According to authorities, the guy died at the scene of the incident. The motorist was not detained or prosecuted and stayed at the scene.
According to the RPD, an investigation is continuing. The dad was “driving his children home” after swim practice “when they saw a mamma duck and ducklings struggling to cross a busy intersection,” according to his aunt on a GoFundMe page set up to assist the family.
Casey got out of the car to assist the ducks in crossing the road safely. But while he was walking back to his vehicle, he was unfortunately hit by a car, a family member wrote in a post published on the website, which has donated more than $40,000 as of Monday.
A 12-year-old child who observed the crash told that others in the vicinity had cheered the guy before he was struck for his gesture of generosity.
Everyone was clapping as he was being really nice, the youngster said.
Flowers and rubber ducks were placed in the area as a makeshift tribute on Friday.
Rivara is survived by his wife, Angel, whom he described as “the love of his life,” and their “two beautiful kids.”
Family was Casey’s world, and he had recently started working at their children’s school to stay even closer to them. He loved working at the school because he could make a difference in the lives of other kids, his aunt said on the fundraising website.
Casey was the kindest, most incredible husband and father, said a family member. Even his last act in this world was an expression of his love.
