Mike Kelley is a police officer and a security guard at Walmart in Cleveland, Ohio. One day he noticed something at one of the checkout lines. It was a father who had his four children with him, and he was desperately struggling to pay his grocery bill. The father was visibly uncomfortable with the situation. It was then that something hit the officer.
Says Mike: “I just felt God telling me, saying, ‘Just go help him.’ [I’m] getting extra money to be there and I’m just like, are these people going to go hungry when I’m just sitting here making a little extra money for myself?… I’m looking down at the little girl, and the little girl’s looking up to her dad, and I look in the [shopping cart.] It’s just Ramen noodles. I don’t know if it’s a financial thing, or if the card just didn’t work.”
Well no matter what it was, Mike was going to make sure the father was helped, so he walked up to the man and paid $80 for all of his groceries.
A customer in line, Jermaine Bowe, was very impressed by the officer’s kindness, and posted about it on Facebook, saying: “Just witnessed another extraordinary act by our men and women in uniform. A police officer paid for the groceries of a customer here at Walmart. The best part, the customer told the police officer ‘God bless you,’ and the police officer responded, ‘I am already blessed.’ I love it.”

Adds Officer Mike: “That’s what we’re here for… that’s what I feel like what we’re put on this earth for… is to help each other out.”
And those are some pretty good words to live by.
