After being diagnosed with aphasia, the famous actor said last year that he would no longer be performing. The illness supposedly made it hard for him to talk, which made it hard for him to do his job on set.
However, his health has deteriorated since then, with his family confirming early this year that he had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.
Needless to say, the prognosis shocked all of Bruce’s loved ones, as well as admirers across the globe, and those closest to him have been providing their support in a variety of ways.
The Die Hard star celebrated his 68th birthday over the weekend, and fans had their first opportunity to see him properly since the confirmation of his terrible diagnosis.
Willis’ family can be seen singing “Happy Birthday” to him in a video posted to social media by his ex-wife, Demi Moore, on Sunday, March 19. Before blowing out his candles, the Hollywood heavyweight could be heard discussing with his family, 44-year-old Emma Willis and his three kids, Rumer, 34, Scout, 21, and Tallulah, 29.
Moore, who was reported earlier this month to have moved in with Willis and his new wife to assist with her former partner’s care, captioned her Instagram post:
“Happy birthday, BW! So glad we could celebrate you today. Love you and love our family. Thank you to everyone for the love and warm wishes — we all feel them.”
According to studies, frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a disorder that affects the frontal lobes of the brain. Personality changes, compulsive conduct, and difficulty communicating are some of the symptoms.
Willis stopped from acting to concentrate on his health after being diagnosed with aphasia in 2022.
But, after a year after the Armageddon actor stepped off from his professional obligations, it was revealed that his illness had worsened.
Willis’ wife, Emma Heming, together with his kids and ex-wife Demi Moore, issued the following statement:
Their family wished to begin by conveying their sincerest thanks for the enormous outpouring of love, support and beautiful tales they have all received since revealing Bruce’s first diagnosis.
In that spirit, they wished to provide all with an update on their dear husband, father, and friend, since they now have a better knowledge of what he is going through.
Since they published Bruce’s aphasia diagnosis in spring 2022, his health has worsened, and they now have a more precise diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia” (known as FTD).
Sadly, communication difficulties are just one indication of Bruce’s illness. Although this is difficult, having a firm diagnosis is a comfort.
FTD is a heinous illness that many have never heard of and can affect anybody.
The statement concluded as follows:
Bruce has always found pleasure in life – and has encouraged everybody he knows do the same. It meant everything to see that level of caring reflected back to him and to all.
They have been so affected by ones affection for their loving husband, dad, and friend at this trying time.
Ones ongoing empathy, understanding, and respect will allow them to assist Bruce in living the fullest life possible, the family concluded.
Emma Willis also sent a birthday tribute to her husband over the weekend.
Please join us in sending Bruce Willis our love and happy wishes.
We’re all rooting for you, Bruce, and we hope and pray that you can keep fighting.
