A terrible tragedy occurred at a senior living complex in Mount Dora, Florida, for an elderly couple. A lady is accused of killing Darryl Getman, 83, and Sharon Getman, 80. They were the victims of a “random crime,” according to officials.
At a press conference, Mount Dora Interim Police Chief Mike Gibson stated that the couple was living happily and appreciating their golden years of retirement until disaster struck. The couple was residing at a retirement home in Waterman Village in Mount Dora. Following the heinous killings, officials apprehended a female suspect.
Darryl and Sharon’s golden years were brutally cut short by a vicious and callous double killing, Chief Gibson remarked. As per Mount Dora Police Department investigations, Darryl and Sharon Getman were discovered dead inside their house on December 31, 2022. A neighbor was worried since this couple’s garage door was unusually open.
Officials have yet to discover a reason for the deaths and feel it was a random crime. Vickie Lynn Williams, 51, was named as the suspected assailant in news sources. Police caught her in association with the homicide.
According to accounts, she was also observed driving the Getmans’ vehicle and was arrested for auto theft in Savannah, Georgia. Vicki is being detained for extradition at the Chatham County Jail in Georgia, according to jail records. It is unclear if Williams has struck a plea agreement to the theft allegation or has appointed a lawyer to speak on her behalf.
During the press conference, Chief Gibson refused to identify Williams, however he did clarify that the female individual of interest was dressed in a “quite unusual” clothing and was apparently at the Getmans’ retirement complex on three separate times as of December 30.
According to accounts, the individual of interest was supposedly removed out of the premises by security around 3 p.m., but surveillance cameras caught the individual soon after and finally at 11 p.m. Then she allegedly left, and responding cops were unable to locate her after a community complaint was lodged.
The elderly couple’s kids, Anthony and Brittany Getman, issued a statement on Wednesday to announce their parents’ tragic deaths. The heinous murder of their parents has left them astonished, horrified, and saddened. Their parents had lived in Mount Dora for nearly 20 years and adored the community. They were enjoying their golden years by being active and socializing with their numerous friends, according to the statement.
