Heartbreaking Note Attached To An Abandoned Dog Outside An Animal Shelter.

In Wilmington, Delaware, a dog was left outside the animal shelter with a touching note.

It read: ‘Please take care of Sky. She is six years old and friendly. I couldn’t take care of her. I became homeless and couldn’t feed her. She is not sick, just hungry, very friendly. Please find her a home. Please.’

Sky is a female terrier mix and weighed about 30 pounds, which was about 20 pounds underweight for a dog her size. Kerry Flanagan Bruni is the director of the shelter.

Says Kerry: ‘It appears just to be that she wasn’t being fed the proper amount. She’s very sweet, very friendly to both people and dogs.”

Kerry said that aside from her being underweight, she seems to be doing just fine. The shelter was also testing the dog for any problems, including parasites, which might be contributing to the weight issue. The shelter was going to try to foster out Sky to a loving family, adding that the owner could still claim the dog if certain situations changed in their life.

Says Kerry: ‘We would be willing to work with them to reunite them, but it would really depend on the situation and the owner’s circumstances.’

She added that: “Sometimes, the best option is to surrender a pet if you are unable to care for them, which includes shelter.”

There are about 15-20 animals that are abandoned at that shelter every year. Last year, statewide, the humane association took in nearly a thousand surrendered and stray animals.

After a Facebook post about Sky, more than $800 in donations were made to the shelter to take care of her.
