Drake Gaines, Joanna Gaines‘ son, has graduated from high school!
On Saturday, the Fixer Upper star celebrated her and husband Chip’s firstborn’s high school graduation with an Instagram video that chronicled highlights from his upbringing.
It seems like just yesterday that they were congratulating him on his first steps. However, last weekend, as he walked across the stage to receive his high school diploma (!) they were cheering him on as he took his first steps into a world beyond what he’s known, Joanna, 45, said of her 18-year-old.
They’re so proud of Drake, she said, along with a red love emoji and the hashtag #16 from his baseball uniform.
The Magnolia Network CEO also posted a touching snapshot of Drake cuddling his youngest brother, Crew, 4, as he waited for his diploma.
“Melt. My. Heart,” the mother of five wrote about the touching moment on Instagram.
Joanna and Chip, 48, chatted in August, when Drake began his senior year, about how sad it was for her to know her eldest would soon be leaving the nest.
She said that she recalls him being a baby, and then how did this happen? So that’s where it’s like, how do one slow down time for them? As all know, time does not stop. There are seven of them, but she is aware that when one baby leaves, it changes the dynamic, she said of Drake’s departure for college.
At the same time, Chip said that he intends to concentrate on all of the wonderful parts of watching Drake prepare for his new chapter. He continued that he thinks, like anything else, they did their job. And now, with this young guy, whatever he becomes, it’ll be wonderful to watch what he becomes and believe it’s healthy.
Along with Drake and Crew, the couple has a 15-year-old son, Duke, as well as daughters Ella Rose (16) and Emmie Kay (13).
