Johnny Depp had a long-term romance with French model and singer Vanessa Paradis before meeting and marrying Amber Heard. The couple, who have been together for 14 years, have 2 kids.
While Depp appears to be focusing on depicting his divorce with Paradis as positively as possible these days, a different tale was being circulated in 2012.
According to reports, Johnny Depp had to pay a large sum of money to break his relationship with Vanessa Paradis. His net worth was believed to be $200 million at the time, and he supposedly settled for $100 million with his ex.
The large sum of money was also for the couple’s kids, who were 13 and 9 years old at the time of the divorce. Other sites, however, afterwards reported that there was more to the number than meets the eye.
Depp was reported to have spoken harshly about his previous spouse to none other than artist Elton John in 2022. Amber Heard’s legal team claimed that Depp wrote John an email in 2013 that featured insulting language about Paradis.
According to reports, Depp stated, “On the other hand, my kids have fallen head over heels in love with Amber (my girl), and that burden has been lifted off my shoulders!!! That’s in contrast to the ‘French extortionist (ex [expletive]’ attempts to brainwash children against her, which I’m sure are on the way.”
Heard and Depp met on the set of a film in which they both appeared in 2011, and Paradis and Depp split up the following year. It’s likely that this had anything to do with the stated settlement sum, but this has never been proven.
