A 14-year-old Indiana boy, Scottie Dean Morris, who was thought to be in peril, has been discovered alive over a week after he went missing. Police located Morris less than a mile from his home, at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday, and he was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution.
The good news was shared by Eaton police on Facebook late that night, expressing relief that Morris had been found unharmed. In an official statement, Eaton police stated that Morris had been placed “in a safe environment with the assistance of Delaware County CPS” and that his family was fully cooperating with the investigation. Morris had not been seen since March 16 when he left his home.
His disappearance was widely publicized after a picture of him looking unhappy in a white t-shirt with phrases like “I’m a liar” and “I hurt my lil’ brother” scribbled across it was posted online as a punishment before he vanished. Morris’ family was heartbroken by his disappearance and collaborated with authorities throughout the search.
The Indiana State Police issued an Amber Alert the day after Morris vanished, warning that he was “believed to be in extreme danger and may require medical assistance.” The frantic search involved hundreds of volunteers and law enforcement agencies at all levels.
