A woman has been charged with manslaughter after reportedly starving her autistic son to death.
Joshua Djuric, 18, was discovered malnourished inside a Yagoona property in Sydney’s southwest last week.
His mother, Keti Jovanovska, is charged with failing to give her son with food, medical treatment, or medicine as his condition was deteriorating.
According to cops, considering her son’s worsening condition, the 52-year-old mom only gave him bread and soft drinks.
On Wednesday, she stated to a reporter outside her home that her kid was autistic, but obviously she loved him.
It is understood that the adolescent did not attend school.
Ms Jovanovska asked for assistance from neighbors after discovering her son at 10:30 p.m. on Monday, September 26.
Neighbors phoned 911, but Joshua was declared dead at the spot.
According to court records given in her bail application, cops believe he died between 6 p.m. and 10:40 p.m. that night, up to four hours before triple-0 was contacted.
According to NSW Police, Ms Jovanovska was interrogated at Bankstown Police Station before being brought to hospital for evaluation.
The next morning, she was accused of manslaughter and appeared at Bankstown Local Court.
Many windows are boarded up, and an old mattress has been put out front. It had been entrusted to the mom and Joshua by Ms Jovanovska’s parents.
Neighbors stated they never saw Joshua on the street, and authorities are looking into if he had any health or mental issues that prevented him from caring for himself.
Ms Jovanovska is scheduled to appear in court again on November 30 and is still under severe bail restrictions.
