A 27-year-old guy stood trial this week on a conviction of raping a young girl and getting her pregnant.
According to Franklin County Jail records, Gerson Fuentes was arrested on a charge of rape of a minor under the age of 13 on Tuesday, July 12. According to the Columbus Dispatch, the 10-year-old victim became pregnant as a result.
During Fuentes’ arraignment on Wednesday, Columbus Police Detective Jeffrey Huhn claimed that the girl’s mother phoned Franklin County Children’s Services on June 22 to report her daughter was pregnant. According to reports, the girl and her mom flew to Indianapolis to get an abortion.
Huhn stated at the hearing that the girl had an initial consultation on June 29 and the surgery was scheduled for the following day. The “products of conception” were collected on July 2 for DNA testing.
Fuentes allegedly informed detectives that he raped the 10-year-old child at least twice. It was unclear how they knew each other at first.
According to the reports, Ohio prohibited abortions six weeks after Roe v. Wade was overturned.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost stated in a statement, “My heart breaks for this young child’s anguish. I appreciate the Columbus Police Department’s hard work in obtaining a confession and removing a rapist off the streets.”
Fuentes is being detained in the Franklin County Jail on a $2 million bail, according to reports.
