The United States is currently experiencing a political upheaval, as can be seen by keeping just one eye on current events.
Demonstrations appear to happen every day, and tensions are at an all-time high. This is mostly due to racial tensions that have surfaced this year as a result of the unjustified killings of people like George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, among others.
Practically every aspect of American life is changing, and many people are clamoring to express their worries and grievances.
Over the years, individuals have used the sports arena as an apparent platform to express their values and ideas, in part due to the variety of the sport.
In 2016, Colin Kaepernick gained notoriety for kneeling during the playing of the national anthem to call attention to the condition of Black Americans. He received harsh criticism for doing so, and as a result, he finally lost his position as an NFL player.
He has gained more support as a result of the events of this year, but it is absolutely wrong that he had to suffer because of his belief.
Obviously, there is now a heated discussion about whether or not the national anthem should be played at athletic events. Recently, a number of well-known people have joined Kaepernick on kneeling during the national anthem, which some people view as demeaning.
I believe that everyone should be allowed to make their own decisions. After all, honoring the flag and national anthem is quite important to certain individuals.
Granbury High School’s football squad in Texas is of the opinion that it is. The Granbury Pirates were not pleased at all when their high school band was unable to perform before a game.
They were so moved, in fact, that they chose to sing the National Anthem aloud as a group. The group stood up, put their hands over their hearts, and sang the national song with fervor and pride.
I’m not sure about you, but listening to such a performance makes my heart flutter with pride.
The decision to sing and stand for the national anthem should be up to each individual, but I think we can all admit that the video below is something genuinely remarkable.
