Many dogs are consistently turned over by adopters, typically in favor of younger, more traditionally appealing pups, due to their breed, age, looks, or health difficulties.
But every now and again, a kind human comes along and opens their heart to these pets. A 2-year-old girl was the caring individual for one shelter pit bull, who picked him out of all the dogs at the shelter.
Audra Spurio never expected to be attracted to a sick and mangey pit bull when she brought her 2-year-old daughter to the shelter to adopt a dog. But the toddler persevered, understanding that the dog needed some love and attention.
Her daughter desired to meet her more than any other dog at the shelter that day, Audra said. Despite the fact that the dog “stunk like mange,” the small girl insisted, “Mommy, that one.”
“Let the doggy out. Need help,” Gigi said.
So the child got her wish, and Gigi let the pit bull play outdoors. While the dog was afraid and shy, the kid was always kind and patient.
The dog’s ailments would have “grossed out” many youngsters, but Gigi just saw a companion in need of her assistance.
While playing outdoors, it was evident the two had an immediate relationship as the youngster kissed and rubbed the dog’s tummy.
She noticed as this frightened dog melted in G’s hands, Audra said. She would not let her daughter leave her side.
When the pit bull was returned to her kennel, Gigi begged her mother to take the dog home so they could care for her. “Sick doggy, go home,” says the two-year-old.
Fortunately, the little girl achieved her dream. The ailing pit bull won the hearts of all the pets at the shelter that day, and the dog, now called Scarlett, is now in her new home.
Scarlett is now at home and feeling much better, Audra said. She still won’t let G get out of her sight.
The touching tale has almost 14 million views on YouTube, with many users expressing optimism for the future because of Gigi and her care for animals.
What a lovely, thoughtful youngster. We are overjoyed that Scarlett has found someone to love and care for her, as well as a beautiful home.
