Heartbreaking Incident Claims Lives of Grandparents and Grandson

A Maryland neighborhood is in grief after four individuals were killed in a three-car incident, involving a grandson and two of his grandparents.

According to a Maryland State Police press release, the crash happened Saturday afternoon when a Saturn rear-ended a Chevrolet Equinox that had stopped while trying to turn left onto Skidmore Road from Liberty Road in Carroll County.

The Equinox, driven by 72-year-old Charles Black III, was pushed into oncoming traffic on Skidmore Road’s eastbound lanes, where it was hit by a third vehicle, described by officials as a Ford F-350.

Charles and two passengers, Barbara Black, 69, and Debbie Hill, 63, both of New Windsor, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to MSP.

Gage Black, 17, and Phillip Ceresa, 15, all of New Windsor, were transferred to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with unspecified wounds. Gage died later.

Gage’s grandparents were Charles and Barbara, and Debbie was Barbara’s sister.

Family and friends have created a GoFundMe account “to help with burial costs.” As of Monday afternoon, more than $20,000 had been raised.

“Our community suffered an unimaginable tragedy and loss,” the fundraiser’s organizers wrote in the description. The victims were characterized as four “incredible individuals.”

FSK Jr. Eagles Football also paid tribute to the alumni’s families who were affected by the “tragic” crash on social media. Phillip and his recuperation were also supported by the group.

“It is a sad morning,” the organization stated on its Facebook page on Sunday.

The accident is still being investigated. “Investigators do not believe that impaired driving was a factor in this crash,” MSP said in a press release.

The driver of the Ford that collided with the Chevrolet, 59-year-old Jeffrey Burdette of Mt. Airy was also hurt in the incident. He was taken to Carroll Hospital in Westminster for unspecified injuries.
