Margot Robbie Made Everyone on the ‘Barbie’ Set Wear Pink One Day a Week, says Ryan Gosling

Margot Robbie brought an additional appreciation for the brilliant color on set for the new Barbie film.

Ryan Gosling revealed for its new Barbie special issue, out today, that his costar Robbie, 33, who also acted as a producer on the production, instituted a required pink clothing code for everyone on site one day a week.

Everyone had to wear something pink on Margot’s Pink Day once a week. And they were fined if they didn’t, Gosling, 42, adds of the weekly celebration. She would go around collecting fines and donating them to charities.

What was especially remarkable was how enthusiastic the male crew members were. At the end of the film, they all got together and made pink crew shirts with rainbow fringe with their own money, he continues.

It was a chance for them to express their gratitude and admiration for what Margot and [director] Greta [Gerwig] were creating, Gosling explains. It was almost like that scene at the end of Dead Poets Society, where they all get on their desks and say, ‘O captain! My captain!'”

In the new film, Gosling plays Ken, who seems to sing an entire musical number about his problems as Barbie’s long-term male friend. According to the several trailers published in the months preceding Barbie’s release, the story follows Barbie as she is encouraged by another Barbie (Kate McKinnon) to journey to the real world and uncover “the truth about the universe.”

Ken then accompanies Barbie into the real world, where the two experience the delights—and drawbacks—of living with people.

“Ryan is the most comedically gifted actor with whom I have ever worked.” “He really is,” Robbie says of Gosling in the new Barbie special edition. “He’s well-known for his dramatic acting.” But he has an incredible knack for humor, and I wrecked most of his takes by giggling the whole time.”

At the film’s global premiere in Los Angeles on Sunday, director Greta Gerwig, 39, expressed her excitement at finally sharing the highly anticipated film with audiences after months of trailers and promotion.

It’s absolutely amazing, and she is simply attempting to take it all in and not miss it. Since so much has led up to this, she said. It’s rather emotional. It truly is.

The movie’s star-studded ensemble cast features America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Will Ferrell, Michael Cera, Ariana Greenblatt, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans, Jamie Demetriou, Connor Swindells, Sharon Rooney, Nicola Coughlan, Ritu Arya, Dua Lipa, and Helen Mirren.

Barbie will be released in cinemas on July 21.
