Manganiello’s court action comes after the pair acknowledged in a statement earlier this week that they had chosen to split up.
Concerns were raised about the couple when Vergara traveled to Italy to celebrate her 51st birthday, with photographs from the trip revealing no trace of Manganiello and no trace of Vergara’s wedding ring.
Manganiello’s birthday post to his wife aroused curiosity as well, as he uploaded a photo of the two with the caption, “¡¡¡Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía!!!”
“Am I the only one who doesn’t like the way it sounds?” One admirer asked after reading the caption. ” Sofía”… not even “My love, My beloved wife”…
In a statement issued on July 17, the pair acknowledged they had ‘made the tough choice to divorce,’ adding that as two individuals who love and care for one another very much, they respectfully request respect for their privacy at this time as they handle this new phase of their lives.
Manganiello formally filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court yesterday, July 19.
Manganiello stated ‘irreconcilable disagreements’ as the cause for their break in legal paperwork, with the date of their separation marked as July 2, 2023.
Manganiello’s lawsuit also said that he and Vergara, who has previously been dubbed the world’s highest-paid actress, had a prenuptial agreement.
He requested that the court affirm his and Vergara’s separate possessions, including jewels and profits, and that each party pay their own attorney’s expenses.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, a co-star of Vergara’s on Modern Family, introduced Vergara and Manganiello when they first met at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in 2014.
Vergara was engaged to Nick Loeb at the time, but she started seeing Manganiello after her divorce from Loeb was announced.
In 2015, the pair married in Florida in front of hundreds of guests, including Manganiello’s Magic Mike XXL co-star Channing Tatum, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Reese Witherspoon.
While celebrating her birthday in Italy, Julie Bowen, another Modern Family star, commented on one of her images, saying, “This is what single and [fire emoji] looks like!”
Vergara and Manganiello never had children together, despite the fact that Vergara has a 31-year-old son, Manolo.
