Please keep the family in one’s thoughts and prayers as they go through this terrible time, the sheriff’s office said.

Aviation units and a bloodhound were deployed in the hunt in the community 30 miles north of Fort Myers. According to Claudette Smith, a public information officer with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, it is unknown when an investigation will be done.

According to the sheriff’s office, Geer was located during a search by a boat belonging to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

She wandered off from the Vrbo home her family has been staying at on Barksdale St. in Port Charlotte (near Cochran and Collingswood), according to the statement. She was still wearing a diaper at the time.

She was believed to have walked off toward the canal.

Following their evacuation from Hurricane Ian in September, Geer’s family was residing at the rental.

Since Evelyn had autism, the family put a deadbolt lock on the front door at home, but their rental did not, according to the sheriff’s office.

Geer’s mother, Evelyn, stated in 911 calls published by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s office that this can’t be happening.

When Evelyn was asked to describe her kid, she replied that she was dressed in just a diaper. She’s about 3 feet tall, with long brown hair pulled back in a ponytail, Evelyn said.

Geer was discovered just after 7 a.m.

Sadly, she is here to offer one with an update. They found Evelyn deceased, Smith stated. She is situated behind the canal, behind the homes on Barksdale Street, in Port Charlotte.

A neighbor said that he awoke at 4 a.m. to helicopters.

It shocked him, Steven Stotler said. He went out on the street to find out what was going on, and that’s when the officer told him they were looking for a 4-year-old girl.
