6-Year-Old “Sweet” Boy Dies a Month After Being Hit by Lightning While Holding Dad’s Hand.

A young child passed away a month after lightning struck him and his father in Valley Mills, Texas.

Grayson Boggs, six, “went to be with our Lord and his father at 5:05 a.m. today,” his family said on Friday.

“Please pray for the family at this time,” a GoFundMe campaign said. “Fly high, sweet boy.”

Grayson was strolling down the driveway with his dad, Matthew Boggs, 34, on May 15 when lightning came out of the sky without warning, according to the GoFundMe page.

According to both the fundraiser and Matthew’s obituary, Grayson was holding his father’s hand when they were hit.

According to a post on the Bosque County Sheriff’s Trace Hendricks Office Facebook page, Matthew and Grayson “were not responsive” when first responders arrived. Grayson was discovered “unresponsive, but breathing” and sent to a nearby hospital, while Matthew was confirmed dead.

Matthew’s mother, Angela Boggs, previously told that in their last moments together, Matthew said to his kid, “I love you, buddy.”

He just got done telling Grayson, she said. That’s when the lightning struck.

Grayson was treated at Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Medical Center in Temple, as the boy’s grandmother, Angela Boggs, previously told.

Grayson suffered repeated seizures following the event, according to the fundraiser’s organizer, cousin Stephanie Burris, and was put on a ventilator to help him breathe. Grayson’s frontal lobe and optic nerve were damaged, according to an MRI.

Grayson was taken off the ventilator and was breathing on his own, according to a family update on Thursday, while doctors informed the family it was still unlikely the kid would live.

What follows next is entirely up to God. They’re still hopeful, said the boy’s grandma. They hope he dies peacefully if he does.

As of Friday afternoon, more than $83,000 had been raised on the family’s behalf.
