In New York State, a woman was killed in a head-on accident with her brother.
Dahlia Klink, 24, died Sunday when her brother Evan Klink, 21, crossed the middle line in a 2006 Dodge Ram near the village of Freedom on Saturday and collided with her 2005 Ford Focus, according to New York State Police.
Dahlia was taken to the neighboring Erie County Medical Center in critical condition soon after, but unfortunately died from her injuries the next day.
Two other occupants of Dahlia’s automobile died on the spot as well. This included Havanah Lopez, 17, and Molly Kibler, 6, who was recognized as Dahlia’s daughter.
Another 4-year-old passenger, thought to be Dahlia’s second daughter, was taken to Oishei Children’s Hospital’s ICU and is presently being treated for critical injuries, according to police.
Evan was also treated for wounds, and his 19-year-old passenger, Cameron Klink, was flown to the hospital in critical condition.
The state police’s crash reconstruction section is presently evaluating physical evidence from Evan’s car to ascertain his rate of speed at the time of the incident. According to the site, investigators are also working with the Cattaraugus County District Attorney’s Office to seek a subpoena for his blood obtained at the hospital.
“It struck me when I learned it was brother and sister. “I couldn’t believe it,” Sue Fish, a Freedom resident, told WKBW-TV. “How’s the truck driver going to live with himself and the rest of his family now?”
Dahlia was described as “an amazing mom” who never spent more than a day apart from her girls and had a contagious smile and an enormous heart, according to a family letter acquired by the site.
Molly was a little ball of sunshine; she could brighten anyone’s day just by looking at her and seeing her little smirk. She loved her little sister and cousins more than anything in the world; they were all best friends. They will both be greatly missed and deeply loved, the letter added.
A GoFundMe page has been put up to generate cash for Dahlia and Molly’s funerals, as well as for Dahlia’s second daughter’s medical needs. An extra campaign to support Lopez’s burial expenses has also been set up.
