The sheriff’s office noted that the Inman Police Department was helping with the investigation.

In the press release dated Saturday, authorities did not formally name the individuals or the manner of their deaths. On Monday morning, the McPherson County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement: “As of right now, our office is not releasing or confirming identities or causes of death until a preliminary report has been received from the coroner’s office.”

According to The Kansas City Star, a GoFundMe page created by a loved one said that the victims were a pregnant mom and her two boys.

The fundraiser page over the weekend said, today they received news that our dear family friend Jason Richey lost his wife and two children suddenly to carbon monoxide poisoning this morning. Jason and Felicia also had another child on the way. They are asking for your love, prayers, and support as he and his 3-year-old son deal with this terrible situation.

The organizer said that they are asking for your assistance in alleviating the burden on the family from the expense of preparing their three funerals and time away from work to mourn.

The second GoFundMe appeal to help cover funeral costs has been verified by Richey, the victims’ husband and father.

By early Monday afternoon, the aggregate proceeds from the two events were close to $28,000.

Inman Motocross responded to the event in a Facebook post on Saturday; “As many know, there was a tragedy here today. Round 8 of the Kansas Motocross Championship Series will wait until another day. Today we hug our loved ones extra tight and say, I love you an extra time. Our hearts go out to the family as they work through this time. Thank you everyone for your understanding and patience at this time.”

Carbon monoxide (CO), a gas that has no smell and no color, may be fatal, according to the website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. When fuel is used in automobiles, trucks, furnaces, or gas ranges, carbon monoxide is found in the exhaust gases.

According to the CDC, carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms include headaches, lightheadedness, and disorientation. However, those who are intoxicated or asleep may not exhibit any symptoms at all.
